Operating principle:
According to the “long-stator
principle”, several primaries
mark out the traverse path and a magnetic
strip (secondary) fixed to the carriage
is moved. As this secondary does not
require any energy to be fed to it,
practically limitless traverse paths
are possible.

– Asynchronous applications
Baumüller asynchronous
linear motors have been developed and manufactured
in accordance with the state of the art.
They all feature the following characteristics:

- Modular system with various motor
frame sizes and lengths
- Feed forces of up to 1000 N and
velocities of up to 6 m/s
- Type of protection up to IP65
for all motor components
- Motor winding protected against
thermal overload by means of integrated
temperature sensors (temperature
detector and KTY84)
- Highly flexible, tension-relieved
and screened power cable feed

SupraTrans project
As part of the international
symposium on systems using magnetic bearings
held at the IFW Dresden from September 26
to 28, 2005, Baumüller Kamenz GmbH
presented the drive and control system developed
for SupraTrans.
The vehicle drive takes the
form of a double-fed linear asynchronous
motor consisting of a long stator alongside
the traverse path as the primary and a rotor
on the vehicle as the secondary. The drive
is controlled from the vehicle side.
